Editorial Standards

Informopedia.com exists to give readers complete, trustworthy insight into complex subjects. These standards govern everything we publish, and they are not aspirational — they are the checklist every guide must pass before it goes live.

Primary sources only

We build our guides from primary sources: peer-reviewed journal articles, official government and institutional reports, clinical trial registries, and published datasets. Secondary reporting — including news coverage — is never treated as evidence. When we describe what a study found, we have read the study itself.

Every claim tied to a citation

Factual claims in our guides carry citations that a reader can follow. Statistics name their source study or dataset; quotations and findings are attributed; contested or uncertain points are labeled as such rather than smoothed over. Tier 2 expert deep-dives additionally carry literature tables summarizing the key studies, their designs, and their limitations.

Verified links

Every DOI and outbound link is checked at publication time and resolves to the cited source. Where an open-access archive version exists, we link to it alongside the publisher version so readers are never stopped by a paywall when a free copy is available.

Educational content, not professional advice

Our guides explain published research for educational purposes. They are not professional advice — and this matters most in Medicine, where every article carries an explicit no-medical-advice disclaimer and readers are directed to qualified professionals. See our Medical Disclaimer for the full statement.

Corrections

When verified facts change or we discover an error, we correct the article in place — keeping the same URL — with a dated correction note, following our Corrections Policy. We do not silently rewrite history.

Images and charts

We do not use AI-generated images as article art. The charts in our guides are data visualizations produced directly from the cited sources and datasets, and each chart’s provenance is credited at the foot of the article.

Authorship

All research content is credited to the Informopedia Research Desk. We publish no individual bylines; responsibility for accuracy rests with the desk as a whole, and corrections are issued in its name.

Neutrality

Informopedia.com takes no political, commercial, or institutional position. We report what the evidence shows — including findings that are inconvenient to any party — and we present the official positions of all sides on contested questions. Sponsored content, where it ever appears, will be unambiguously labeled and will never influence editorial coverage.

Review process

Before publication, every guide passes through research, drafting, independent source verification (each citation checked against its source), and a final editorial review for clarity, balance, and compliance with these standards. Tier 2 expert deep-dives receive additional scrutiny of their statistical and methodological claims. No guide is published to meet a quota or a deadline; it is published when it is ready.
